Turnover
Turning this boat over took just over 2 man days to prepare and turn the boat. The structure of the boat must be properly braced so that the hull shape is not deformed as it is lifted and turned. These braces also support the boat while it is inverted so that the weight of the boat's structure rests in the same relative position as when it is upright.

The planks painted in red would have been unusable for reuse... 8 of 9 on the starboard side (lower picture) 6 of nine on the port side.  Initial inspection after bottom removal indicates 2 more frames than the original 4 identified need replaced (total 6) and an additional  2  half (starboard side only ) frames will also need replacement.  As one of the next steps we will clean all grease grime and loose paint from the frames and make sure there are no additonal frame concerns. Keel is in good condition as well as Port chine with the exception of  the tire rub area shown below. There is no structural damage to the chine, just soime damage around a fasterner and to the rabbit for the bottom and side planks.
Note the charred area next to the fastener.... there was enough friction to start a fire in the chine when this occured.

Note the 4 frames we knew we'd be replacing (red arrows) and one of the the additional frames we will replace in above and another to the left.

It appears a section of the chine was replaced between the white arrows. If so an inferior wood was used that was not at all resistant to rot.  Further investigation of this area will be done to determine if this is actually the case. The side planks attached to the chine are rotted as well and will be removed and replaced with new wood.

Pictured at left, old chine yet to be remvoved.  Note the abrupt stop at the frame. A repair was made years ago before the current owner had the boat where the chine was cut out and replaced using butt joints instead of scarf joints.
Above, the material used in the chine repair / section replacement was not rot resistant. It was so badly rotted we couldn't tell what kind of wood was actually used.

Pictured at right, the missing section of chine after the inferior repair made years ago was removed. (between small arrows) Note new "blank" for chine laying on frames -(over large arrow)
